Left to Right: Sarah Palin, Joe Biden, John McCain
Politics from the inside OUT
By Duane Wells
The vice-presidential debate in St. Louis pits folksy Gov. Sarah Palin against statesman Sen. Joe Biden in a matchup of style vs. substance; Sen. John McCain becomes the first Republican presidential nominee to get personal about LGBT issues in the gay press; Google comes out against California’s Proposition 8; and Fall Out Boy says the ‘government shouldn’t legislate love.’

John McCain Better for All Americans, Not Just Gays
Op-Ed
By B. Daniel Blatt
Like all Americans, gay people need leaders who stand up to entrenched interests, who have effected real change. Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin are such people. Given how both have expressed tolerance for gay people, judging us not by our sexual orientation, but as individuals, we can rest assured that they will not kowtow to the anti-gay minority in the Republican Party. We don’t need gay-specific legislation to improve our social standing. We just need to let the free market work.

Hypocrite of the Week: Naomi Campbell
By Duane Wells
Supermodel Naomi Campbell recently blamed her now infamous confrontation with a flight attendant onboard a British Airways flight on everybody’s touchiness post 9/11. However because she knows full well that her well established anger management problems are to blame for her current troubles with British Airways, the leggy, catwalk queen Miss Naomi Campbell is the hypocrite of the week.

Singled Out: Chronicles of a Nobody Out and About in Los Angeles
Because life in LA is rarely like The L Word
By Mona Elyafi
Following a run-in with a gorgeous woman with flowing tresses entertainment publicist and all-around gay girl Mona Elyafi ponders her fetish for women with long, flowing, decidedly dark hair. 'Love is in the air and most certainly in the hair,' Mona says. 'It never really occurred to me until recently that, contrary to the general consensus, the first thing my eyes catch when on the prowl for potential female prey are not the tits or ass, but certifiably the long lustrous mane of hair flowing down a woman’s back.'

The Naked Truth: Embracing Lesbian Labels
By Tracey Stevens and Kathy Wunder
Ever notice how the words MANkind, HisStory, huMAN, woman… fold women neatly into one little part of Adam's Rib Cage? This is why I choose to embrace the word 'lesbian.' Other labels for women who love women include: lesbian, dyke, bull-dyke, homosexual, homosensual, butch, muff-diver, queer, gay, family, lez, muff-diver, homo, lipstick lez, lesbyterian, lesboneese, butch, fem, wears sensible shoes, lesbo, or 'She just needs a good MAN.'

TransNation: HeteroQueer Activist Speaks at Southern Comfort
By Jacob Anderson-Minshall
'I’ve been in the family for so long -- nearly 30 years -- it’s home to me. Straight, to me, is a lifestyle I just can’t relate to even though I present fairly straight.' says C. Michael Woodward, who identifies as heteroqueer. 'It means I’m a man who enjoys the company of women -- although that has been known to be flexible -- but lives almost exclusively in LGBTQ social circles.'

The Insignificant Debate: How Spin Trumped Authenticity
Op-Ed
By Duane Wells
Tonight, vice-presidential contenders Gov. Sarah Palin and Sen. Joe Biden will square off in their first and only debate. But for all the hype, I can’t help but wonder if any of it matters. If what we've already seen in this election cycle is any indication, reaction to the VP debate will be lacking one important element: Authenticity.

Inner Vision: Fascist Party Dolls
By Lisa B. Valentino
The current political landscape is so rife with lessons to be viewed and understood that I can’t help return to it this week as a tool for personal introspection. In fact, I would be downright remiss if I let the opportunity pass without comment, writes Lisa B. Valentino. We have to be aware and willing to take that look with our inner vision, and see what’s really going on in order to move ourselves forward. That’s how we break free from the fascist prison of past conditioning. We rise up against our thought dictators, and start an internal revolution.

Proudly Out: Scary Times
By Libby Post
Are you scared? I am, writes Political Editor Libby Post. As participating citizens who 'keep up,' we monitor the news wondering how us pawns will fare in this economic chess game that has the entire country teetering on a depression, let alone a recession. This economic meltdown started as soon as we elected George Bush. It was slow but steady.
